Commissioner Rebeca Sosa is elected to be Chairwoman of the Board of County Commissioners
Miami, FL - In a historic move, the Board of County Commissioners appointed Commissioner Rebeca Sosa to be their new Chairwoman, making her the first Hispanic woman in Miami-Dade County to be chosen to this prestigious post, as well as the first woman to be elected on the first round. The decision took place during a November 20, 2012 commission meeting and will be followed with an Induction Ceremony where Commissioner Sosa and Commissioner Lynda Bell, who was elected as Vide-Chair, will commence their two-year term.
“It is an honor to have been chosen by my colleagues. I look forward to carrying out my official duties as Chairwoman and commit to continuing to represent all the residents of Miami-Dade County faithfully,” said Commissioner Sosa.
Commissioner Sosa has served on the Board of County Commissioners since 2001 representing the residents of District 6, which includes areas in the City of Miami, Coral Gables, West Miami, Hialeah and Miami Springs. She is currently the Chairwoman of the committee for Economic Development & Social Services. Additionally, she is a member of the committee for Infrastructure & Land Use and the committee for Recreational & Cultural Affairs.
