Commissioner Rebeca Sosa honored by the Tropical Audubon Society with the Dan Beard Government Service Award
As part of its centennial anniversary celebration, the Tropical Audubon Society awarded Miami-Dade County Commissioner Rebeca Sosa with the prestigious Dan Beard Government Service Award on Sunday, April 26, 2015. The award was presented to Commissioner Sosa in recognition of her legislative initiatives to address sea level rise and her longtime advocacy of Miami-Dade County’s fragile ecosystems.
“I feel truly honored to receive this award from the Tropical Audubon Society, an organization whose rich history of advocating for our environment spans a century,” expressed Commissioner Sosa. “Whether it is sea level rise, restoring environmentally protected lands, or ensuring that our ecosystem is protected for future generations, the Tropical Audubon Society is always ready to act.”
Tropical Audubon Society’s centennial celebration and award ceremony took place at the Doc Thomas House & Steinberg Nature Center which was recently listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The April 26 celebration also marked the 230th birthday of John James Audubon, the organization’s namesake
