Commissioner Sosa calls on MPO to include autonomous vehicles in future studies
Thanks to legislation filed by Commissioner Sosa, the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) will begin considering the prospective use of autonomous vehicles in future transportation studies. The resolution was unanimously supported by the MPO’s Governing Board at the February 18, 2016 meeting.
“Local governments are often times too slow in responding to changes in technology,” said Commissioner Sosa. “We live in a golden age of invention and progress and so we must ensure that we are able to adapt lest we get left behind. There is talk of companies like Google, Apple and Tesla mass producing driverless cars and we want to make sure that Miami-Dade is ready should the market head in that direction.”
