Commissioner Sosa wants Miami-Dade involved with regional climate adaptation efforts

Today, County Commissioners approved a resolution, sponsored by Commissioner Sosa, aimed at ensuring Miami-Dade County plays an active role in our region's climate adaption efforts.

Commissioner Sosa's resolution approves an agreement between Broward, Palm Beach, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties to share resources in participating in the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact (Compact). The Compact between the counties was first executed in January of 2010 and since then has been one of the nation's leading examples of a regional approach to climate action. The resolution will help the Compact accomplish its mission of providing a unified front to addressing and mitigating the effects of climate change on Southeast Florida's valuable natural resources and man-made assets.

"It is my sincere hope that by working with our friends in Broward, Palm Beach and Monroe we can deal with sea level rise and make our communities more resilient," said Commissioner Sosa. "This Compact is a model for the rest of the country to follow and we must ensure that we continue collaborating in addressing the climate issues we face."
