Street Designation for American Hero, James Weir
MIAMI-DADE – On Friday, June 4, Miami-Dade County will honor World War II war hero James Weir with a sign naming a portion of SW 78th Street, from SW 77th Ave to SW 87th Ave as “James Weir Way.”
“It is my great honor to commemorate James Weir’s bravery, selflessness and love for his country by designating a portion of SW 78th Street in his name,” said Commissioner Raquel Regalado, who sponsored the naming in April. “James Weir fought for his country in World War II and on June 6, 1944, Weir crossed the English Channel aboard to deliver tanks and troops onto the beaches of Normandy. James Weir Way will serve as a constant reminder of the devotion of a great patriot, and the legacy men and women serving our County must now carry forward.”
“As we celebrate the anniversary of D-Day, I am proud to honor the brave Americans who stormed the beaches of Normandy,” said Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez. “The Greatest Generation fought the evils of Nazism, liberating France from tyranny 77 years ago. I want to thank Commissioner Regalado and the Miami-Dade Board of County Commission for designating the intersection of SW 78th Street and SW 77th Avenue in honor of World War II veteran James Weir. Today, and every day, we honor and thank the courage of our nation's veterans for their service and sacrifice in the name of freedom.”
