(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
Today Sunset Elementary School celebrated its award for the 2007 Goldman Sachs Foundation Prize for Excellence in International Education in the Elementary/Middle School category. Applications were received from a wide spectrum of public and private urban, suburban, and rural elementary and middle schools from across the country. These applications were read and rated by review panels that included area and international studies experts, language specialists, and education policy leaders and practitioners. The finalists were in turn reviewed by a distinguished jury. The Foundation was impressed and inspired by the variety, scope, and creativity of the applications. The review panel selected Sunset Elementary School as the recipient of this prize.

This is the first time a public or private school from Miami-Dade County has won the award. The whole school joined in the festivities with an international student parade and performance. “It is great to see our children achieve such a prestigious award for their hard work and academic excellence. This exemplifies the importance of being an international community and the benefits to our youth. A multicultural community expands our minds and gives us the ability to interact with the world,” said Commissioner Gimenez.
