July message from Commissioner Lynda Bell
During the month of July we celebrate the 238th birthday of the United States of America. Independence Day is a great opportunity to remember our founding fathers and their vision for a free and independent society sustained by education and civil responsibility. In fact, Samuel Adams once wrote, "If virtue and knowledge are diffused among the people, they will never be enslaved. This will be their great security." Adams’ words are still applicable today. Education must remain a backbone of our society. That is why for the past four years I have organized a Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway to ensure that every student has the necessary resources and materials to succeed in school. This year’s Backpack Giveaway will take place on Sunday, August 3rd, 2014 at the South Dade YMCA Family Center located at 9355 SW 134 Street, Miami, FL 33176. Reserve you backpack now or call my office at 305.378.6677. Today’s children are our future leaders and will grow to be the brave men and women who defend the values we hold so dearly. Let’s offer them the best opportunities. God bless America!
