(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Commissioner Katy Sorenson will host a "Free Alternatives to Foreclosure" workshop on Wednesday, May 21 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Kendall Branch Library, 9101 S.W. 97 Avenue. The event, presented in English and Spanish, is a collaboration between the Hispanic Coalition's Hispanic Trust Initiative, Telemundo 51, and NBC 6 to alleviate the increasing numbers of home foreclosures in South Florida.
"Our first foreclosure prevention workshop last January was a tremendous success, and we are eager to help even more Miami-Dade families find solutions to their mortgage troubles and protect their homes from foreclosure," stated Commissioner Sorenson.
Commissioner Sorenson's workshop is one in a series of five foreclosure prevention seminars from May 19 to May 23, with others hosted by several County Commissioners and municipalities, including County Commissioners Carlos A. Gimenez and Joe A. Martinez, City of Sweetwater Mayor Manuel M. Maroño, and City of Miramar Mayor Lori Cohen Moseley. Attendees can receive one-on-one counseling sessions with officials from the Hispanic Coalition's Hispanic Trust Initiative, attorneys, the Property Appraiser's office, and principal banks such as Washington Mutual, Countrywide Financial, GMAC Mortgage, and FHA Homeownership.
Homeowners are asked to bring their mortgage documents and family budget to receive financial counseling.
