(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Commissioner Katy Sorenson, in partnership with the Village of Palmetto Bay and Town of Cutler Bay, will host a FREE Hurricane Preparedness Workshop on Saturday, June 21 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Deering Estate Visitors Center, 16701 S.W. 72 Avenue, in Palmetto Bay. Hurricane preparedness information, safety tips, and lots of giveaways will be available to all attendees. Residents can also bring their old showerheads and exchange them for newer, high efficiency models (supplies are limited).
“Miami-Dade residents have had to endure the aftermath of severe storms in years past,” said Commissioner Sorenson. “I encourage everyone to take advantage of the wealth of information available at our workshop to prepare for the unexpected this hurricane season.”
Special guest Max Mayfield, former Director of the National Hurricane Center, will be the featured speaker. Also attending the workshop will be representatives from Florida Power & Light, South Florida Water Management District, and the State Attorney’s Office.
Residents can also receive helpful information from various Miami-Dade County departments, including: Team Metro Kendall, Consumer Services Department, Miami-Dade Transit, Solid Waste Management, Mosquito Control & Public Works, Building Code Compliance Office, Water and Sewer Department, Department of Emergency Management & Homeland Security, and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. Sunstate Bank will be providing refreshments.
