(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Commissioner Katy Sorenson, in conjunction with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR), Alliance for Aging, HEALTHSOUTH Rehabilitation Hospital of Miami, and the Town of Cutler Bay, will be sponsoring the Senior Community Resource Fair on Thursday, January 8, 2009 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Southland Mall in Cutler Bay, 20505 South Dixie Highway. The event is free to the public and will include helpful and life-saving information for Miami-Dade's senior community.
"Many seniors, particularly those who are living on a fixed income, may not have the resources that contribute to safe and healthy living," said Commissioner Sorenson. "I urge our community's seniors and their loved ones to take advantage of this wealth of information that could truly save lives."
Attendees will receive free fire and life safety information, health and wellness information, health screenings, free promotional giveaways, and more. Also, low income seniors who are ages 65 and older can sign up for the installation of a free smoke or carbon monoxide detector. In addition, qualified applicants can also request a Dial-A-Life phone which can be used in emergency situations. Commissioner Sorenson will give a presentation at 1:30 p.m.
