Severe Weather Awareness Week
This week is Florida Severe Weather Awareness Week. Miami-Dade County has committed to participate in Severe Weather Awareness Week to help increase preparedness throughout the State. Each day the focus will be on a specific topic; Monday-Lightning; Tuesday–Marine Hazards and Rip Currents; Wednesday–Tornadoes and Thunderstorms; Thursday–Hurricanes and Flooding; and Friday–Temperature Extremes and Wildfires.
Miami-Dade County Parks Issues Call for Seasonal Job Applicants; Accepting Applications February 24 - March 23 for Summer Positions
The Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department is issuing its annual call for seasonal job applicants to fill the summer staffing needs of its summer programming and activities, traditionally the busiest time of year when families and kids on summer vacation frequent Miami-Dade County’s parks for its summer camps, pools and beaches. Applications will only be accepted February 24 – March 23, 2014, for a variety of summer jobs at Miami-Dade County Parks, including pool managers, lifeguards, park service aides, and recreation leaders.
Vice Chair Lynda Bell announces 2014 "Mom & Pop" Grant application period for Small Businesses in Commission District 8
Vice Chair Lynda Bell is inviting all small businesses in District 8 to take advantage of the County’s annual "Mom & Pop" grant program designed to support commercial and home-based businesses in her district. Home-based businesses can receive up to $2,000 and commercial-based enterprises may obtain up to $4,000.
Miami-Dade County Animal Services is waiving adoption fees for dogs over 35 pounds for the remainder of February
Miami-Dade County Animal Services is waiving adoption fees for large dogs over 35 lbs for the remainder of the month of February. All large beautiful, lovable dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and ready to go to a forever home. Adopters will be responsible for a $27 license fee.

County Commission Vice Chair Lynda Bell today tapped Mr. Ruben J. Arias as her new Chief of Staff following the departure of Mr. Eddie Borrego, her former Chief of Staff.
Miami-Dade County and The Beacon Council launch geospatial website to attract jobs and investments
Miami-Dade County, in conjunction with The Beacon Council launched the www.miamidadesites.com website which illustrates available vacant, industrial and commercial properties within Miami-Dade County, for prospective domestic and international businesses wishing to expand, relocate or establish their commercial operations in Miami-Dade County.
This revolutionary instrument assists The Beacon Council and other economic development organizations by utilizing user-friendly criteria with geographically based demographic and business information, enabling real estate broker registration to highlight available commercial properties to the general public.
Commissioner Lynda Bell formally installed as Vice Chair of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners
In a moving ceremony surrounded by family, friends, and residents, County Commissioner Lynda Bell was formally sworn-in as Vice Chair of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners by Miami-Dade County Court Judge, the Hon. Gladys Perez.
