2007 - Dan Beard Governmental Conservation Award from Tropical Audubon for "upholding conservation ideals and championing environmental responsibility in Miami-Dade County."

2006 - Received the first ever Marjory Stoneman Douglas Environmental Award from Friends of the Everglades, for her body of work protecting Miami-Dade's environment.

2004 - "Public Official of the Year" award from the Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association.

2004 – Preservation Award, Dade Heritage Trust – for supporting Dade Heritage Days and the preservation of our community’s historic places.

2003 - Environmental Leadership Award, from the Florida Local Environmental Resource Agencies (FLERA) for "exemplary leadership on environmental issues" and her "commitment to smart growth."

2001 - Honored by the Everglades Coalition with the James Webb Public Service Award for waging a 7-year battle against having an airport built between two national parks.

2000 - Stewards of Heritage Preservation Award, Florida Archaeological Council - for her political leadership and commitment to preserving the Miami Circle.

2000 - Preservation Award, Dade Heritage Trust - for her leadership on the Miami-Dade County Commission to preserve the Miami Circle archeological site.

1998 - Environmental Preservation Award, Miami Chapter of American Institute of Architects (AIA) for notable work, achievement, service, and leadership in preservation of our environment.

1997 - Conservationist of the Year, Herbert W. Hoover, Jr. Memorial, Biscayne Bay Foundation - for her efforts to preserve Miami-Dade County's natural resources and quality of life.
