County Adopts Sustainable Development Ordinance, Calls for Special
Office on Sustainability
The
County Commission adopted an Ordinance that officially establishes
a sustainability program for buildings owned, financed and/or operated
by Miami-Dade County. The sweeping “green building” measure is the
result of a resolution sponsored by Commissioner Katy Sorenson in
October of 2005 declaring sustainable building as a policy of the
County. “Miami-Dade County has an opportunity to become a leader in
sustainable, environmentally responsible development,” explained
Commissioner Sorenson. “This ordinance gives us the ability to lead by
example by making our buildings as ‘green’ as possible and to be
nationally recognized as leaders in environmental design.”
