Vote early to avoid large crowd
Great interest in the November 4th election is expected to set a record for voter turnout. “I’m excited about the level of interest people in Miami-Dade have about this election,” said Commissioner Sorenson. “I would encourage voters, especially newly registered voters, to take advantage of early voting at any of the 20 designated early voting sites throughout the County.” Early voting begins October 20th. Commissioner Sorenson seeks reversal of UDB move and end to legal showdown with Florida regulators
Commissioner Katy Sorenson is sponsoring a resolution to reverse the Board of County Commissioners vote to move the Urban Development Boundary. Florida’s Department of Community Affairs has found the County out of compliance with applicable laws and has begun an administrative hearing that could result in severe sanctions for the County. “Now, in a difficult budget year, is not the time for precious County resources to be used defending land use decisions on behalf of developers. DCA’s action ensures that the County will be involved in long, costly litigation defending the commission’s decision to move the Urban Development Boundary. I don’t think that’s how our citizens want their tax money spent.” |

Commissioner Sorenson calls for resolution of village mitigation dispute
Commissioner Katy Sorenson would like to announce some good news: the mitigation payments made by Palmetto Bay, Miami Lakes and Doral as a condition of their incorporating as municipalities will soon end.
As a result of legislation sponsored by Commissioner Sorenson and Commissioner Natacha Seijas, agreements are being negotiated by the professional staffs of the municipalities and the County. These three cities will be phasing out their mitigation payments -- in Palmetto Bay’s case, this fiscal year. The commission has stipulated that the terms of the agreements must be fair and equitable to all the municipalities involved.
