(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Commissioner Sorenson applauded the approval of a lease agreement with Miami-Dade Public Schools for the continued use of Ron Ehmann Park. The Killian area park had recently been considered as a possible site for a middle school expansion, but that plan met significant opposition from the neighborhood around Ron Ehmann Park. Commissioner Sorenson met with community members to discuss issues with the park as well as traffic concerns generated by activities there and from neighboring Killian Senior High School. “It is great to see so many people rally around their community park,” said Commissioner Sorenson. “Ron Ehmann is a very popular park in the Kendall area, so I’m glad that we were able to work out a new long-term lease for the facility.”
Ron Ehmann Park is situated on property owned by Miami-Dade Schools and had been leased for $1 a year by the County for many decades. The new lease agreement is for the same $1 per year for ten years, with three renewal options for 10 years each, effectively extending the property’s use as a County park for up to 40 years.
Ron Ehmann Park, located at 10995 SW 97 Ave, is a popular active recreational park with basketball courts, a softball field, soccer field, and tennis center with six lighted courts. The park is also home to a significant stand of pine forest with a paved nature and exercise trail.
