Hundreds of kids celebrate Easter at Commissioner Lynda Bell’s “Hop with a Cop” Easter egg hunt in Naranja

Hundreds of little children from the Naranja area and over one hundred kids residing at the Community Partnership for the Homeless' Homeless Assistance Center, enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon collecting "tons" of free Eater Eggs, cupcakes, candy, beverages and popcorn at Commissioner Lynda Bell's "Hop with a Cop" Easter Egg Hunt on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the Jose Sommohano Community Center in Naranja.

"These events not only nurture a sense of community among the area residents, it also helps to reinforce the bonds of family.  I am delighted that my staff and I are a part of these wonderful events and look forward to hosting many more in the years ahead." - Said Commissioner Bell

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Lynda Bell teamed up with the members of the Miami-Dade County Police Department's South District Neighborhood Resource Unit and the Naranja Community Redevelopment Association Board (CRA) to give area kids and their families an enjoyable afternoon filled with the spirit of the Easter season.  Among the attractions at this year's event was a Miami-Dade Police Department helicopter and the famous red D.A.R.E. "To Say No To Drugs" Ford Mustang for the kids to tour and inspect.  Two bounce houses were available for the kids to "burn-up" some of the sugar they ate and a small petting zoo was set up with a number of exotic birds and animals for the kids to enjoy.

"Events like these are an excellent opportunity for the police department and elected officials to bring their resources together to create a positive mentoring atmosphere so that kids can play and feel safe around officers who wear the uniform and interact with government officials. Hopefully, this leaves them with a positive impact in their young lives." - Said Sgt. Ozzie Hernandez, Community Response Team.
