Commissioner Lynda Bell to Host Miami-Dade County's Home Energy Savings Workshop as part of Countywide energy efficiency campaign
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Lynda Bell is pleased to host a Home Energy Savings Workshop at the Pinecrest Community Center on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm (registration begins at 6:00 pm). The workshops are being held to educate residents on energy efficiency and conservation and provide homeowners with the information, resources and incentives to reduce their utility costs. Participants will receive a free energy savings toolkit valued at over $100 and learn to track household energy consumption and reduction. Most importantly, residents will save money by learning how to reduce energy use in their homes by 20-30 percent.
"Home energy costs are one of the largest expenses in a household. During these very difficult economic times, every resident should learn ways on how to do more with less by reducing their overall energy consumption while maximizing the value of their hard-earned income. These County workshops are wonderful opportunities to learn strategies on how to make one's home more energy efficient. It's good for the pocketbook and it's good for the environment. It's a win-win on both counts," said Commissioner Bell.
The free energy savings toolkit will include items such as a programmable thermostat, hot water gage, LED sensor nightlight and compact florescent light bulbs (CFLs). According to ENERGY STAR, if every American home replaced just one light with an ENERGY STAR qualified CFL, we would save enough money to light more than three million homes for a year, save about $700 Million in annual energy costs, and prevent nine billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions per year, equivalent to the emissions of about 800,000 cars.
To register and for additional information, please call 3-1-1 or visit: www.green.miamidade.gov. The first 50 registered residents who participate will receive the free energy savings toolkit valued at over $100. Limit one per household. Workshops are limited to Miami-Dade County residents only, please.
