Over 1000 Residents Participate in Commissioner Lynda Bell's 1st Annual Thanksgiving Food Giveaway at South Dade Park
Commissioner Lynda Bell hosted her First Annual Thanksgiving Food Giveaway at South Dade Park this past Saturday, November 12, 2011, to a steady stream of eager families from South Dade, totaling over 1,000 residents in just 3 hours! Residents received one large frozen turkey or chicken, along with traditional holiday staples appropriate for a traditional Thanksgiving Day dinner; compliments of Farm Share, Publix Supermarkets and the Park Foundation of Miami-Dade.
"One of the great pleasures of being a public servant is having the ability to bring people together for a common cause. I am truly overwhelmed by the tremendous response from our community, as well as the countless smiles that this giveaway brought to residents, young and old, as they picked up their bags filled with a traditional Thanksgiving Day meal. - said Commissioner Bell. "In addition, as a result of the selflessness of the over one hundred local volunteers who participated in this event, over 1,000 families will be able to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving Day meal with all the trimmings!" - added Commissioner Bell.
Commissioner Bell and her staff were aided in the food distribution by over one hundred volunteers from Commission District 8 churches, schools, as well as local residents.
