STATEMENT BY COUNTY COMMISSIONER LYNDA BELL
County Commissioner Lynda Bell has learned through U.S. Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen's office that the Secretary of the U.S. Air Force, Michael B. Donley will not support the proposed Miami International Aerospace Show which was slated to be held at the U.S. Air Force Reserve Base in Homestead, Florida. (HARB)
"I am extremely disappointed to learn of the Air Force's final decision to deny the residents of Miami-Dade County the opportunity to host the Miami International Aerospace Show. This critically important event was estimated to create thousands of full-time and part-time jobs, a much needed opportunity for the residents of District 8 and Miami-Dade County." - said Commissioner Bell. "In addition, the aerospace show was slated to have a direct economic impact estimated between $250 and $350 Million, not to mention the increased local sales revenue, public infrastructure updates, and the thousands of visitors to the South Florida area that this event would have brought."
"Although this news comes as a significant blow to our community, our economy, and our pride in our beloved, Homestead Air Reserve Base, I wish to thank Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen for her vision and her unwavering tenacity in her efforts to help bring this critical project to our community, as well as the rest of the South Florida Congressional Delegation and the Beacon Council for their respective efforts." - added Commissioner Bell
