Commissioner Lynda Bell and Miami-Dade Parks to dedicate new playground at Leisure Lakes Park this Friday!
Commissioner Lynda Bell and the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department invite residents to join them as they dedicate the new playground at Leisure Lakes Park (29305 Illinois Road, Miami) at 3:30 pm. Children from the park’s “Fit-to-Play: Health, Wellness and Obesity Prevention” Out-of-School program will participate in the festivities.
“As the former playground had enjoyed a good amount of use, it had become worn and outdated. The kids needed a new place to play safely. For this reason, I was delighted to have had the opportunity to work closely together with the dedicated staff of the Parks Department to find the necessary funding for the creation of this new playground designed for the enjoyment of all kids in the surrounding neighborhood for many years to come," said Commissioner Bell.
The new playground includes swings and play equipment for toddlers and school age children, benches, and a new shade structure to supplement the park’s existing shade trees. Artificial turf was added throughout the playground, providing a barrier-free ADA accessible surface. The project is a product of the Miami-Dade Parks Design and Development Team. Funding was made possible by a Community Development Block Grant, totaling $185,000.
“This facility was designed to complement the park’s natural surroundings and existing uses, so as to further encourage community families to get outdoors and stay active,” said Miami-Dade County Parks Director Jack Kardys.
The 8.6 acre Leisure Lakes Park also contains a baseball field, two basketball courts, a small recreation center and lighted pathways.
