Commissioner Bell meets with Florida Governor Rick Scott and state leaders to discuss hurricane preparedness and disaster mitigation
Commissioner Lynda Bell met with Florida Governor Rick Scott, Major General Emmett R. Titshaw of the Florida National Guard, Bryan Koon, Director of the Florida Department of Emergency Management, and the State Emergency Response Team to discuss the current state of Florida’s Hurricane Preparedness plans and strategies for the Hurricane Season that officially begins today.
The Governor, Commissioner Bell, and Florida’s emergency management team toured several areas of Miami-Dade County that have been hit hard in past Hurricane Seasons including, Southland Mall, in order to assess critical points of concern for this year.
"The Governor's visit to South Florida today was critically important as I, and other local leaders, had the opportunity to impress upon him the importance of having a swift and efficient response on the part of state agencies, should a Hurricane affect the South Florida area," said Commissioner Bell. "Having endured catastrophic storms in the past, I cannot stress enough the importance of Hurricane preparedness to each and every resident of Miami-Dade County."
Commissioner Bell strongly encourages everyone to visit the County’s 2012 Hurricane Preparedness website at http://www.miamidade.gov/hurricane/ and download your own preparedness guide.
