Statement by Vice Chair Lynda Bell on the Commission's Decision to override the Mayor's Veto over pending Union Contracts

“Although I respect my colleagues’ decision on this most important issue which affects not only our valued County employees but every resident living in Miami-Dade County, I am disappointed and discouraged over this morning’s decision to override the Mayor’s veto related to the pending union contracts, said Vice Chair Bell. “Despite our economy’s slow signs of improvement, it still remains unpredictable and very fragile. Today’s decision has the real potential of requiring massive employee layoffs, as well as tax increases our residents cannot afford. The decision taken today could destabilize our economy, affect our bond rating, and negatively impact all of the residents of Miami Dade County.”
