Vice Chair Bell is joined, from left, by Gordon “Eric” Knowles, President and CEO of the Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson and County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz at the opening of the PortMiami Tunnel.

(MIAMI-DADE, FL) – “Today’s historic opening of the PortMiami Tunnel secures Miami-Dade County as a more powerful player in the global marketplace for years to come. The PortMiami Tunnel, coupled with the on-port infrastructure improvements underway, including the 50-foot-deep port dredge and port rail, will help us to more efficiently handle travelers and transport more cargo. PortMiami will be ready to encounter a new era of trade and commerce following the expansion of the Panama Canal. The economic benefits from these investments will resound throughout our community as we enable PortMiami to transfer cargo from ships to trucks to rail to markets more rapidly – paving the way for 33,000 new local jobs.”
