Miami-Dade County Commission enhances South Dade Busway, allows city trolleys to access routes

The Board of County Commissioners unanimously passed an ordinance authorizing municipal circulators to operate on the South Miami-Dade Busway. The ordinance, sponsored by Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava, will enhance existing bus services through new routes that connect to the Busway and the Metrorail.

“Allowing the city circulators on the Busway is a simple, common sense solution. Many circulators currently connect to the Metrorail. Now, they will be able to bypass traffic congestion, connect directly to routes on the Busway and provide faster and more efficient service. I am committed to delivering short and long term transit solutions and this is another step towards creating real expedited service on the Busway and alleviating traffic congestion,” said Commissioner Levine Cava.

In order to ensure operational safety, new circulator routes operating on the Busway would be approved by the county. Cities along the Busway will submit their plans and it is anticipated that this enhanced service will be approved, providing real relief in the near future.
