Commissioner Levine Cava is Firefighter for a Day

Commissioner Levine Cava joined Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) and The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 1403 on October 28, 2016 for FIRE OPS 101. The event exposed participants to working conditions firefighters and emergency medical personnel face while protecting our community every day.

Commissioner Levine Cava participated in hands-on firefighting and rescue operations under controlled supervision of MDFR personnel. She learned about the proper equipment and protective gear that firefighters and paramedics use. She broke through a wall, pried open a locked door, operated the water truck and strapped up to fight a real fire in a burning house.

“I am continually impressed by the hard work and expertise of our Miami-Dade firefighters,” said Commissioner Levine Cava. “Experiencing what they train to do first hand shows me how committed they are to serving our community. They run into danger, for each of us, every day. Today I got to imagine their daily routine of courage and risk.”
