Miami-Dade County Seeks Uses for 90 Million Gallons of Reclaimed Wastewater
Miami-Dade Commissioners directed the county administration to look into potential uses for reclaimed wastewater previously slated to be used for new Turkey Point nuclear power units. Now that Florida Power & Light has announced it will not be moving forward with plans for the new units until 2020, that leaves the County with 90 million gallons of reclaimed wastewater that had been promised to FPL.
Commissioner Levine Cava, sponsor of the resolution said, “It is important to reuse water whenever we can so that we are preserving our drinking water for the long-term use of Miami-Dade residents. Rather than disposing of wastewater, which can be expensive, we need to find alternate uses.”
