Miami-Dade Commissioners to Consider Charter Review
Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava has proposed legislation that would empanel a community task force to review the County Charter and recommend changes. The Board of County Commissioners is required to review the charter itself or establish a task force to do so once every 5 years.
Commissioner Levine Cava’s legislation will be considered by the Board’s Economic Prosperity Committee on November 10.
“Giving the public the opportunity to review our Charter is an essential part of our democracy and critical to restoring trust in government,” said Commissioner Levine Cava.
Miami-Dade County’s Charter outlines the powers and structure of the county government, details elections rules and provides for changes to laws and elected officials by referenda and recalls. The Charter Review Task Force will be able to offer recommendations to amend any part of the Charter.
