County Commissioner Levine Cava speaks on vote to extend the 836 toll road outside the Urban Development Boundary

MIAMI-DADE – County Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava shared the following statement following the approval of the application to extend the 836 toll road outside the Urban Development Boundary into wetlands and farmland in far West Dade:

“Doing the same thing over and over– creating another expressway, in this case a toll road, to deal with terrible traffic caused by poor planning and overdevelopment, and then expecting different results, is insanity. Today’s approval of extending the 836 toll road into wetlands and farmland outside the Urban Development line will undoubtedly fuel more suburban sprawl, undermine any real effort to invest in transit, and destroy hundreds of acres of farmland. This continued loss of farmland puts our agriculture economy, our second largest industry, at risk and continues the trend of suburban overdevelopment for years to come.”
