Commissioner McGhee to join Miami HEAT in support of Health Equity Fund
MIAMI-DADE – In advance of Martin Luther King Day, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee will be joining the Miami HEAT on Friday, Jan. 15 at noon at the Doris Ison Health Center, 10300 SW 216th Street, Miami, FL, 33190 as the team announces its donation of $1 million to Direct Relief for its Health Equity Fund in continuing support of the Miami HEAT’s social justice pledge.
Direct Relief’s Health Equity Fund is focused on ensuring health centers and free and charitable clinics have access to the medicines and funding they need to serve their communities. With its donation, the HEAT hope to highlight the inequities that exist in healthcare in South Florida and throughout the country. One such beneficiary of the assistance provided from Direct Relief locally is Community Health of South Florida (CHI), specifically the Doris Ison Health Center which tends much of its care to individuals in low-income communities.
As part of its $3 million donation last month to World Central Kitchen (WCK) to purchase meals in support of black and minority-owned restaurants which are in turn served to individuals and families disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the HEAT on Friday is once again teaming up with WCK to surprise frontline healthcare workers with lunch for their ongoing dedication to serve us all in this time of need and in recognition of their commitment to help closing the healthcare gap that exists in black/brown communities. The HEAT and WCK will provide meals to over 400 healthcare workers and 150 patients at the Doris Ison Health Center.
