Commissioner Kionne McGhee

MIAMI-DADE – Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee is inviting the public to attend the unveiling of “Lee C. Jay Avenue,” a newly renamed road that honors the memory of Mr. Jay and his many contributions to our community. The unveiling will be presented from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 12.

On April 20, 2021, the Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution sponsored by Commissioner McGhee that called for co-designating the portion of Homestead Avenue from Banyan Street to Southwest 184th Street in Jay’s honor.

Jay, who served in the U.S. Navy, founded several funeral homes in the South Florida area. That led to the establishment of Jay Funeral Home in Perrine in 1979. Mr. Jay, well-known for his dignity and integrity, left a legacy with his 40 years of service at Jay Funeral Home. He died on Aug. 13, 2019.
