Chairman Dennis C. Moss re-appoints Commissioner Natacha Seijas as Chair of Miami-Dade’s International Trade Consortium

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
Miami-Dade County Commission Chairman Dennis C. Moss has re-appointed Commissioner Natacha Seijas to serve a third two-year term as Chair of The Jay Malina International Trade Consortium (ITC) Board of Directors. Commissioner Seijas was originally appointed in December 2005.

ITC is charged with the development of two-way international merchandise trade through the Port of Miami and Miami International Airport. The organization was created by the Commission in 2002 in order to promote Miami-Dade County as a Global Gateway. Its Board of Directors is comprised of members appointed by the Mayor, the BCC, the County Manager and various economic development and international trade organizations, all of which are stakeholders in the mission of the organization.

"As the Chair of the ITC, Commissioner Seijas has demonstrated the commitment it takes to work with various international delegations and lead trade missions to form beneficial relationships with other nations," said Chairman Moss. Last year, Chairman Moss led a delegation to the Bahamas and understands first-hand the exhaustive schedule trade missions entail. "ITC's missions consist of country briefings, high level government meetings, business to business matchmaking sessions, and networking meetings which offer high level access for the participants. These activities take place in a sun-up to sundown series of constant meetings and activities. Commissioner Seijas has shown time and time again that she is up to the challenge."

According to ITC, international trade in Miami-Dade County supported over 105,000 jobs in our economy in 2006. The organization has led successful trade, business development, and goodwill missions to numerous countries, including South Africa, the Bahamas, India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Czech Republic, Poland, Turkey, Italy, Spain, Peru, Chile, Colombia, and other nations. It has also developed Sister City partnerships with more than two dozen cities abroad.

J. David Pena, a prominent local immigration attorney who was a member of the Board of the ITC and has participated in various missions, said of the reappointment: "I am delighted that Chairman Moss has again recognized Commissioner Seijas' leadership in guiding our efforts to promote our community as a hemispheric platform for trade."

"ITC and Commissioner Seijas' leadership are vital assets in promoting and strengthening Miami-Dade County as an international trade and cultural center worldwide," said Chairman Moss.
