Chairman Dennis C. Moss discusses intercity high-speed rail with Congresswoman Corrine Brown

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
On September 3, 2009, Chairman Dennis C. Moss met with U.S. Congresswoman Corrine Brown at the Stephen P. Clark Center to discuss Miami-Dade's efforts to develop a high-speed rail system that would connect several Florida cities. This past Tuesday, the Miami-Dade County Commission approved a resolution sponsored by Chairman Moss that expressed support for such a transportation system that would connect major corridors, like Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. Chairman Moss explained to Congresswoman Brown the need for Miami-Dade's participation in such a key public transit endeavor and asked for her backing in Washington, D.C. Also joining the Chairman was Commissioner Dorrin D. Rolle, the County's Airport and Seaport Committee Chair.

"There are so many facets of our county that would benefit from the construction of an intercity high-speed rail," said Chairman Moss. "Being just a quick train ride away from other major cities would increase tourism and trade, relieve traffic congestion and reduce greenhouse emissions, establish greater intrastate mobility, and strengthen the viability of our own airport and seaport. I'm grateful to Congresswoman Brown for meeting with me to discuss the feasibility of this railway and its advantages not only to Miami-Dade, but the entire state."
