"Wings Over Homestead" a monumental success

More than 200,000 attendees enjoy precision flying

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
Chairman Dennis C. Moss and Vice-Chairman Jose "Pepe" Diaz were two of more than 200,000 residents who attended the "Wings Over Homestead" Air Show at Homestead Air Reserve Base on November 7-8, 2009. After an 18-year hiatus since Hurricane Andrew, the air show came back in full swing with acrobatic flying demonstrations and tours of vintage aircraft. The event was free and open to the public.

"I had hoped that many people would attend the air show, but never did I anticipate such a large crowd coming to the base with such a passion for flying and in support of our servicemen and women," said Chairman Moss. "Without a doubt, the event was a major success and I look forward to working with our local military once again to make the next air show even better."

"This was a personal event for me," said Vice-Chairman Diaz, who served in the U.S. Marines. "While the air show wowed attendees with spectacular stunts, more than anything it succeeded in showing our residents just how dedicated our military is in serving and protecting our country." Vice-Chairman Diaz, who was appointed by Chairman Moss as the County's military liaison, worked closely with Brig. Gen. William B. Binger and his staff to make this event a reality.

For two days, the public was treated to seven hours of aerial performances and military aircraft tours, viewing aircraft such as P-51 Mustangs to the B-2 Spirit Bomber. Performers also staged search and rescue missions to demonstrate how the military operates in a simulated combat environment.

Chairman Moss and Vice-Chairman Diaz both presented Brig. Gen. William B. Binger, 482nd Fighter Wing commander, a proclamation honoring the Homestead Air Reserve Base for organizing the event and bringing the much-anticipated air show back to Miami-Dade County, and hopefully, for years to come.

"I commend Vice-Chairman Diaz and his staff for working with the Homestead Air Reserve Base to revive the air show this community has been waiting for and for giving Miami-Dade residents something to cheer about," said Chairman Moss.
