On Friday morning, April 27, 2012, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Dennis C. Moss joined Ms. Jane W. McQueen, Director of Miami-Dade's Head Start/Early Head Start program along with members of Kiwanis Club of Kendall/South Dade (KCKSD) for Miami-Dade Community Action & Human Services' (CAHS) Dedication Celebration at the Isaac A. Approximately 60 Head Start students (accompanied by faculty and staff) gathered in the breezeway entrance of the Isaac A. Withers Center to greet, welcome and perform several songs and skits for the special invited guests and parents during the dedication ceremony presented by the Isaac A. Withers Center, the Kiwanis Club of Kendall/South Dade and Miami-Dade CAHS Department. The ceremony also included a tour of the IAW Center that highlighted several upgrades to the facility including newly painted walls and murals, beautifully designed landscaped walkways and area gardens, an upgraded outdoor playground with new spring-mounted animals and open play spaces for running and tricycle riding for the children.

The Head Start and Early Head Start Program is a division of Miami-Dade CAHS which provides comprehensive child development services for low income children and families in Miami-Dade County. The program is open to children ages new born through age 5, and provides care and instruction for children in a classroom setting.

Kiwanis Club of Kendall/South Dade is a non-profit service organization that sponsors and performs various service projects that benefit children and the elderly in the South Dade community. Chartered in October 2002 with currently 45 members, the KCKSD provides scholarships to graduating high school students, reading sessions to Head Start and nursery children, visits to nursing homes, support for feeding programs and donations to such organizations as the JDRF and the March of Dimes.

Commissioner Moss commented, "On behalf of the members of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners, we really thank the members of the community and the Head Start Program for their involvement in making the center what it is today and a special thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Kendall/South Dade for their role in the beautiful and outstanding upgrades and improvements to the Isaac A. Withers Center. The children and everyone here today should be proud of this beautiful center."
