Miami-Dade Commissioner Dennis C. Moss honors the lives and legacies of three local centenarians

On the morning of Tuesday, July 3, 2012, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Dennis C. Moss, along with his fellow commissioners and members of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), had the honor and privilege of recognizing three centenarians from District 9 in the Commission chambers.
- Ms. Ella Thompson, 100, Ms. Catherine Mitchell, 100, and Ms. Agnes Reid, 101, were each honored with a Miami-Dade County proclamation surrounded by family, friends and acquaintances.
- Ms. Ella Thompson, member of Martin Memorial AME Church in Richmond Heights celebrated her 100th birthday on June 21, 2012.
- Ms. Catherine Mitchell, member of the Church of The Ascension in Richmond Heights celebrated her 100th birthday on April 27, 2012, yet passed away on June 15, 2012, just prior to being presented with a proclamation. Ms. Mitchell’s daughter, Evadnie Beckett, and her son, Hubert Mitchell, accepted a sympathy resolution on behalf of their mother.
- Ms. Agnes Reid, also a member of the Church of The Ascension, celebrated her 101st birthday on March 25, 2012. Because Ms. Reid was unable to attend the presentation ceremony, Father Norbert Cooper accepted the proclamation on her behalf.
Over 40 members of the Affirmative Aging Ministry of the Church of The Ascension, led by Father Norbert Cooper, were in attendance to express their genuine love and support for the celebrated centenarians.
Commissioner Moss commented, “It’s not every day we get to acknowledge the life and the legacy of a centenarian. Today I am truly grateful and proud to honor three.”
