Commissioner Dennis C. Moss offers resolution establishing the Zoo Miami Improvement Trust Fund

Resolution was passed unanimously by the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners

Miami, FL- On November 5, 2013 the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners unanimously passed Resolution R-899-13, authorizing establishment of the Zoo Miami Improvement Trust Fund.  This resolution, sponsored by Commissioner Dennis C. Moss, allows the Zoo Miami Improvement Trust Fund to accept donations, contributions and proceeds from fundraising activities and annual higher than anticipated revenues for maintenance, repairs and improvements at Zoo Miami.  The establishment of the Zoo Miami Improvement Trust Fund is expected to have a positive fiscal impact by creating a reserve that will support continued revenue growth.

“Zoo Miami is rated among the top 10 zoos in the U.S., and is five times larger than the average zoo,” said Moss.  “The establishment of the Trust Fund will help ensure that funding is available to meet the improvement needs necessary to maintain Zoo Miami as a high level attraction.”

Zoo Miami showcases more than 3000 animals, representing over 500 species.  Special exhibits include the largest Asian aviary in the U.S.   This county wide attraction hosts more than 800,000 visitors and residents annually.
