Description: The South Miami-Dade Cultural Center will be located on 6.39 acres of waterfront property on Southwest 211th Street in Cutler Ridge, on land purchased by Miami-Dade County in 1994 for the construction of a cultural center. The South Miami-Dade Cultural Center is conceived as a multidisciplinary arts center and showcase for the performing arts.
Key features of the Center include:
-
Main Theater Building – a 71,000 sq. ft., 966-seat state-of-the-art theater, including a multi-purpose/informal rehearsal space and a dramatic Art is Public Places project by internationally renowned artist Robert Chambers.
-
Activities Building – a separate 7,500 sq. ft. building, housing an informal performance space with dressing rooms and two smaller multi-purpose spaces for lectures, classes, or community gatherings.
-
Outdoor Performance Spaces – an outdoor plaza and promenade leading to a gently sloping lawn for outdoor concerts and festivals along the Black Creek Waterway.
