Sen. Souto to join Miami Heat at Learn to Swim kickoff event


(MIAMI, FL) – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Sen. Javier Souto, District 10, will join Miami Heat legend Tim Hardaway at the kickoff of the13th year of the Heat’s Learn to Swim program on Wednesday, July 23 at 10 a.m. at the Tropical Estates Park Pool, 10201 SW 48th St., Miami, FL 33165.

The Miami Heat Learn to Swim program is a partnership between the Heat, Florida Blue, Sun Sports and the American Red Cross to highlight the importance of water safety to parents and children throughout South Florida.

“I’m thrilled that the Heat is bringing this life-saving program to my district,” Sen. Souto said. “Knowing how to swim is a basic survival skill that every child should have, especially here in South Florida where we are surrounded by water.”

According to the Florida Department of Health, drowning is the leading cause of death for children under the age of 4 and is the second leading cause to children under the age of seventeen. Miami-Dade County ranks second in Florida in the number of unintentional drowning deaths.
