Commissioner Javier D. Souto honored for his support of the newly expanded Ronald Reagan Equestrian Complex
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Javier D. Souto was honored for his commitment to the success of the Ronald Reagan Equestrian Complex at the grand opening of the center’s expanded facilities on Oct. 16.
Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, County Commission Chairwoman Rebeca Sosa, Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz and Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department Director Jack Kardys presented Commissioner Souto with a plaque thanking him for providing the leadership that has enabled the equestrian complex to develop into a world-class facility. A permanent bronze plaque recognizing Commissioner Souto’s commitment to the facility also will be installed at the entrance of the complex.
The equestrian complex, located at 7900 SW 40th Street, has just unveiled two new covered rings, providing equestrian enthusiasts with more than 3.7 acres of exhibition, competition and performance ready arenas. Each of the equestrian rings provides 55,000 square feet of floor space and has overhead lighting. The rings and the existing stables are connected via new lighted covered walkways. The grounds are newly landscaped and the north parking lot is newly striped. Funding for the $8.67 million improvements came from the Building Better Communities General Obligation Bond Program.
The Equestrian Complex hosts nearly 36 equestrian events each year, three state and local dog shows, and the annual Miami International Agriculture, Cattle and Horse Show.
