Commissioner Souto donates $5,000 for new high school mascot costume

Miami Coral Park Senior High School will be getting a much needed new mascot costume thanks to an allocation from County Commissioner Javier Souto’s district funds.

At today’s County Commission meeting, Commissioner Souto, District 10, donated $5,000 to Miami Coral Park Senior High to purchase a new state-of-the-art costume to be used at school games and pep rallies. The school is located in District 10.

The Miami Herald recently reported that the school’s 6-year-old costume for its mascot, Ramsy, is made of paper mache, deteriorating, and lacks a cooling system to prevent bacteria buildup, but that the school lacks the funds to replace it.

The new costume will feature quality material and a state-of-the-art cooling system to prevent humidity damage and keep its wearer comfortable.

“I’m very pleased to be able to make this donation to the school so students can continue cheering their beloved mascot at games and other events,” Commissioner Souto said.
