On August 8, 2008, Commissioner Joe A. Martinez will join Representative Juan C. Zapata, along with other local and state elected officials, to co-designate SW 8th Street between 107th Avenue and 117th Avenue at the Florida Turnpike as “Dr. Jose A. Marques” Boulevard. The event will kick off at 10 AM at the SW 8th Street and 112th Avenue entrance of the Florida International University. 

Dr. Marques was an integral part of the County family and an advocate for education.  He was an attorney, a professor and founding member of the criminal justice program at Florida International University and a mentor to countless police officers in our community.  Dr. Marques was involved in countless other programs and boards throughout his life. 

Please join us for this wonderful event honoring a man who will always be remembered as being one of Miami-Dade County’s finest.
