Important statement on taxes

“Miami-Dade County experienced a 9 percent revenue growth in 2015, which has failed to translate into a benefit for the taxpayers. This morning I met with Mayor Carlos Gimenez to discuss the FY 2015-2016 budget, and challenged him to seek operational efficiencies and provide our citizens with much needed tax relief in the form of decreasing the millage rate. The opportunity to decrease the millage rate is one that will not be present in next year’s budget, which is why the administration must capitalize on these favorable times to provide tax relief now!" – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Juan C. Zapata

West End Strategy: A Vision for the Future

Commissioner Zapata is pleased to announce the release of new comprehensive community development study of the West End, which will provide a blueprint to guide the community’s future growth.

The privately funded West End Strategy: A Vision for the Future PDF (14 MB) was produced by Florida International University at the request of Commissioner Zapata. It analyzes how the area’s economic and physical assets can be leveraged to foster economic and community development.

West End utility boxes transform into outdoor art

West End Crime Statistics

The Miami-Dade County Police Department recently released a report on crimes in District 11 that reflects a substantial decrease in murders, robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries, larcenies, and motor vehicle thefts in District 11 since 2006.

West End Connectivity Master Plan

In partnership with several County departments, Commissioner Zapata has developed a West End Connectivity Master Plan to promote greenway connectivity and walkability to County parks, schools, libraries and business nodes in the area. These proposed improvements will connect with existing greenways and add approximately 15 miles of bike routes.

New fitness trail along 157th Avenue will connect to existing path

Residents can look forward to a new fitness trail that will provide connectivity to an existing path in the West End. The Miami-Dade County Commission recently approved legislation sponsored by Commissioner Juan C. Zapata to create a “linear park” along SW 157th Avenue between Bird Road and SW 59th Terrace. The “SW 157th Avenue Linear Greenway'' will link to an existing path on SW 157th Avenue that stretches from SW 59th Terrace to Sunset Drive.
