Commissioner Juan C. Zapata will begin his Children First Education Initiative Program at John A. Ferguson Sr. High

In an attempt to bring attention to children’s scholastic achievements, as well as their emotional well-being and safety, Commissioner Zapata will begin monthly visits to the schools in District 11. Today, Commissioner Zapata will begin his Children First Education Initiative program with John A. Ferguson Senior High School, located at 15900 SW 56th Street, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

During this time, Commissioner Zapata will tour the school, meet with school administrators, faculty and students on-site. Additionally, he will end his tour by visiting the students in the government & economics classes. He will speak to them and answer questions the students may have.

These programs have proven success in many school districts. Inviting community leaders to shadow a principal is a concept designed to help participants understand the rewards and rigors of being a principal. They have resulted in appreciation and respect for schools, teachers, and principals, and they have built lasting public relations benefits.

Commissioner Zapata started his morning, today, by arriving during the early morning hours before the start of the school traffic, accompanied by Public Works traffic engineers. The traffic engineers and the Commissioner have identified traffic safety improvements that will address concerns and reduce traffic congestion around the school.

For more information, please contact Commissioner Zapata’s office at 305-375-5511.
