Offering Dental Assistance to Those in Need

Community Smiles is a dental clinic created to treat the medically underserved low-income population of Miami-Dade County through a partnership with Jackson Memorial Medical Center and the Public Health Trust

Established in 1946 as the Dade County Dental Research Clinic, its founding premise, which continues today, is to provide professional dental care for the low-income community. Dedicated, licensed dentists donate their time, vision and energy to the underserved in their community. Throughout its history, Community Smiles has enhanced the overall well-being of its patients.

Community Smiles assists JMHC in treating dental emergencies while operating a separate clinic that handles both routine and complicates dental procedures. More than 170 dentists volunteer their time, expertise and creative energies to form the core of professional staff. The dentists contribute more than $1,000,000 a year of dental services to medically indigent Miami-Dade residents. Those specialists oversee 2,000 patient visits a year and conduct more than 10,000 dental procedures.

The program, in conjunction with Nova Southeastern University’s School of Dentistry, provides graduate resident students to give a total range of comprehensive dental services under the close supervision of the professional staff.

Expanding on its original public service commitment, Community Smiles continues to emphasize treating children and families throughout Miami-Dade County, while simultaneously creating a multitude of superior dental programs.
