Creative Visions

"Creative Visions" is a yearly student art exhibition, hosted for the past eight years by Miami-Dade Board of County Commission Chairman Joe A. Martinez, in collaboration with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, and The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University. This partnership is an excellent example of educators and government agencies working together to bring awareness to the community of the importance of art education, which is evident by the beautiful artwork that is displayed every year in this exhibition.

The "Creative Visions" program was developed in 2004 by Chairman Martinez to encourage visual arts in public schools, nurture the talent of young artists, and provide them a venue to exhibit their work.  In the past eight years, the exhibition has evolved to include all forms of visual and performing arts from hundreds of students.  In 2007, Creative Visions began accepting video media submissions, known as "11-Tube." The "11-Tube" program is a fun and interactive way for TV production students in the three District 11 high schools to showcase their creativity in a video competition. This program won the 2008 Achievement Award by the National Association of Counties (NACO).  In 2012, the "11-Tube" contest was expanded to include middle school students' skills in video production.

What started in 2004 with the 90 pieces of art has expanded to over 200 submissions a year, plus group projects that include the artwork of more than 150 students from both private and public schools in District 11.  "Creative Visions" continues to show the immense talent of our students - a window into their lives that eloquently express how they perceive our world.
