(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Commissioner Joe A. Martinez gave away over 1,300 turkeys to various organizations and schools from November 21 to November 26. The commissioner visited several locations within his district, including all 19 elementary schools in District 11. He raffled off 12 turkeys at each school, and distributed the remainder to other local organizations where recipients were pre-selected on a need basis. Commissioner Martinez also hosted Thanksgiving luncheons at the Palmer House, and at Westwind Lakes Park for the La Nueva Vida Senior Program, and distributed turkey baskets at the University Trailer Park.
"Thanksgiving is not just about being grateful for your own blessings. A big part of it is about giving back to those who need help the most," said Commissioner Martinez.
