(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Four Miami-Dade police officers were commended by Commissioner Joe A. Martinez for their roles in bringing justice to potentially dozens of women – victims of a series of sexual assaults that took place nearly two decades ago.
Detectives William “Bill” Nadramia and Alberto D. Morciego, as well as Sergeant Steven P. Signon and Lieutenant Eric L. Garcia were honored at Miami-Dade County Hall on Thursday, October 22, 2009 for matching DNA evidence connected to four sexual assault cases to William Angel Rivera, believed to be the infamous Kendall Rapist who attacked several women in that community during the early 1990s. Police suspect that Rivera is also responsible for the sexual assaults of more than a dozen women and have been working through the cold cases to finally determine the culprit.
“While advances in DNA technology certainly helped find the suspect in these cases, it was the unwavering determination of these four officers that eventually led to the arrest of Rivera,” said Commissioner Martinez. “As someone who has worked in law enforcement, I understand how difficult and frightening it is for both victims and neighborhood residents to see a crime as heinous as this go unsolved for so long. Thanks to these officers, the victims can finally receive closure and residents can feel a little safer knowing this suspect is in police custody.”
Miami-Dade Police’s Sexual Crimes Bureau encourages all residents who may have information on a crime to contact its department at 305-715-3300.
