Commissioner Juan C. Zapata visits Felix Varela Senior High School as part of Children First Education Initiative Program
Commissioner Juan C. Zapata continued his Children First Initiative at Felix Varela Senior High School this past Thursday, May 30, 2013. As part of his initiative, Commissioner Zapata intended to bring attention to children’s scholastic achievements, as well as their emotional well-being and safety.
During his visit, Commissioner Zapata toured the school; met with school administrators, faculty and students on-site. Additionally, he visited and spoke with students during their veterinary, IPrep and technology classes.
These programs have proven successful in many school districts. Inviting community leaders to shadow a principal is a concept designed to help participants understand the rewards and rigors of being a principal. They have resulted in appreciation and respect for schools, teachers, and principals, and they have built lasting public relations benefits.
