Voters in District 12 first elected José "Pepe" Diaz to the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners in September 2002. Commissioner Diaz was reelected without opposition in September 2006.

Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz sponsored a resolution approved by the County Commission declaring the month of July "American Independence Month" in Miami-Dade County starting this year.

Cover Florida is designed for individuals ages 19 - 64, who have no health insurance and have recently lost their employer-sponsored health insurance.

The program's benefit options include coverage for preventative services, screenings and office visits, as well as office surgery, urgent care, prescription drugs, durable medical equipment and diabetic supplies.
