Vice Chairman Jose "Pepe" Diaz to host workshop on becoming certified to do business with Miami-Dade County

 


(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Vice Chairman Jose "Pepe" Diaz is encouraging local small business owners who want to become certified to do business with Miami-Dade County to attend an outreach meeting on Tuesday, April 28, 2009. The event will be held at the Jorge Mas Canosa Center, 205 SW 114 Avenue, in Sweetwater from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. At the meeting, organized by the County's Department of Small Business Development (SBD), attendees will have the opportunity to begin the certification process on the spot (with applicable documents), obtain general business information, and learn about upcoming opportunities with the Marlin's Baseball Stadium and other county projects.

"The County offers many opportunities to work with local businesses on numerous projects throughout the year," said Commissioner Diaz. "This meeting is the first step in becoming certified to have a working relationship with the County and speaking with the experts to answer all of your questions face-to-face."

Firms eligible for certification must meet the following industry specific three-year average annual gross revenue thresholds:

Community Small Business Enterprise (CSBE) - $10 million for general building, $6 million for heavy construction and $5 million for specialty trade
Community Business Enterprise (CBE) - $4.5 million for architectural, engineering, surveying and mapping, $6 million for landscape architectural
Small Business Enterprise (SBE) - $5 million except manufacturers whose employees cannot exceed one hundred (100) or wholesalers whose employeescannot exceed fifty (50)

Please bring the following documentation with you for eligibility review:

  • copy of last 3 years corporate tax returns
  • copy of local business tax receipt
  • copy of any municipal or state license (if applicable)
  • proof of ownership of company
  • copy of picture identification
  • copy of warranty deed or lease agreement
